Introduction of ADHD

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a developmental disorder that is largely neurological in nature and it affects 3- 5 % of the children population of the World. ADHD is characterized by a persistent pattern of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity. ADHD is most commonly diagnosed in children but over the past decade, it has also been increasingly diagnosed in adults.

Causes of ADHD

The exact cause of ADHD remains unknown. The genetic linkage associated with this disorder is still being explored and in many cases, children with ADHD often show a family history. While majority of ADHD cases are believed to be genetic in nature, roughly about 1/5th of all ADHD cases are thought to be acquired after conception due to brain injury caused by either toxins or physical trauma pre- or post-natally. Certain areas of the brain have been found to be comparatively smaller in children with ADHD. Certain chemical changes in the brain have also been detected in children with ADHD.

RISK FACTORS FOR DEVELOPING ADHD INCLUDE:
  • Premature delivery
  • Very low birth weight
  • Injury to the brain during birth
  • Smoking during pregnancy
Symptoms of ADHD

ADHD is a behavioural disorder in which children act without thinking, they become hyperactive and face trouble in concentration. Their attention gets deviated very easily. Children with ADHD understand what is expected from them but are unable to focus in order to complete the task assigned to them. Such features persist for long and they impair a child's ability to function socially, academically and at home.

A noteworthy point is that children suffering from ADHD do not behave in this manner on purpose; rather they have difficulty in controlling themselves. The good news is that with proper homeopathic ADHD treatment, children can learn to successfully manage their symptoms and lead a healthy life.
